Landscape series
I create landscapes from the places I’ve been which is mostly Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee and many of my landscapes contain the beautiful mountains of the Appalachians which are constantly in danger of being destroyed through mountain top removal.
I like to emphasize light and shadow and push the color to be more expressive rather than trying to copy nature exactly. This makes my work more personal and I hope to move the viewer to not only “see”, but also “feel” these places that call to me.

Salt Lick series An actual house, which I can see from I-64 between the exits for Salt Lick, KY and Morehead, KY, inspired this series. It sits upon a high cow pasture that naturally creates a pleasant 1/3 and 2/3 compositional split of the picture plane. Complementary colors are often the creative inspiration for my color choices. I created this series on paper that I primed with pastel primer that contains pumice that is needed for the pastel to adhere to the paper and create an interesting texture.
